چکیده

introduction in neonates and small infants, early diagnosis of central diabetes insipidus (cdi) and treatment with desmopressin in low doses (avoiding severe hypo- or hypernatremia) are important to prevent associated high morbidity and mortality in this particular age group. case presentetion we described pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic results of the use of recently launched oral desmopressin lyophilisate (minirin melt®) in two infants with cdi, diagnosed at the age of 12 and 62 days, respectively. we observed that a starting dose of 60 μg of minirin melt® in the first case resulted in a pharmacokinetic profile largely exceeding the reference frame observed in children with nocturnal enuresis, while a dose of 15 μg in the second case resulted in acceptable concentrations. after initial dose adjustments, administration of sublingual lyophilisate resulted in rather stable serum sodium concentrations. conclusions using minirin melt® in infants with cdi appears to be effective, easy to use and well tolerated.

Oral desmopressin in central diabetes insipidus.

Seven paediatric patients with central diabetes insipidus were studied in an open dose ranging study in hospital followed by a six month study on an outpatient basis to assess the efficacy and safety of peroral administration of DDAVP (desmopressin) tablets. In the dose ranging study a dose dependent antidiuretic response was observed. The response to 12.5-50 mcg was, however, less effective in...

Comparison of Desmopressin (ddavp) Tablet and Intranasal Spray in the Treatment of Central Diabetes Insipidus

Desmoperssin is the drug of choice for treatment of central diabetes insipidus and most commonly it is used as intranasal spray. In this study, efficacy and side effects of oral desmopressin was compared with the intranasal spray. This study was before -after clinical trial on 14 outpatients (9 F, 5 M, age 14 -50 Y) with central diabetes insipidus who had been treated with intranasal spray of d...

Idiopathic central diabetes insipidus presenting in a very low birth weight infant successfully managed with lyophilized sublingual desmopressin.

Neonatal central diabetes insipidus (DI) is an extremely rare disorder that can cause severe morbidity and mortality. We have reported a very low birth weight infant with idiopathic central DI presenting in the first month of life who was successfully treated with sublingual desmopressin therapy. In this report, we emphasize that central DI should be kept in mind in an infant with unexplained h...

Desmopressin for nocturnal enuresis in nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

We have investigated two unrelated families, in which two children had inherited primary nocturnal enuresis, and nephrogenic diabetes insipidus caused by new mutations in the aquaporin-2 gene (AQP2). The mutant AQP2 proteins were inactive, suggesting that administration of desmopressin could not concentrate the urine in these patients. However, treatment with desmopressin resolved primary noctu...
